What to expect

Training Information

We expect to be training two nights per week. Ideally, we would like the full team to train both nights, however we appreciate that studies and work commitments may impact the ability to attend both sessions.  An open form of communication with the coaching staff is an expectation if you are unable to attend. In order to ensure the team is at their best come game day we do encourage that each player attends at least attend one night a week.

Team Selection

On a Thursday night during the season, teams (including the Senior Women’s team) will be announced at the Jack Chalmers Pavilion (clubrooms) at Clifton Park. Meals are available, and it is a great time to socialise with your teammates and the rest of the club.

Match Times and Venues

We appreciate the playing group will have various commitments. On November 30th, the Essendon District Football League who have ultimate accountability for determining fixturing, announced preliminary details of the Women's fixture.  They have confirmed that the competition will feature 14 Home and Away matches. A final five finals series and matches will be played on a Sunday commencing on April 8, 2017.  Please note that we are in active conversations with the League regarding the fixture which will likely be announced soon. Once confirmed it will be posted here on the website.

If you are new to Football

Many girls have transitioned into football from other sports. We will provide you with training required to ensure the game is fun and you have the ability to hone your current sporting skills, and use them to your advantage.

Membership Fees

Playing Fees are $449 per year per player. This includes leadership development, playing jumpers (returnable at end of year), a training top and a bag. You will also receive socks and shorts for you to keep in the first year. We have tried to keep this as cost effective as possible. As you can imagine there are a lot of costs that go towards ensuring the best team possible. This includes but is not limited to coaches, umpire fees, trainers, masseurs and ground affiliation fees. Our priority is in providing the best playing environment possible for you. For the first year only we have waived the annual Sports Club membership component. In subsequent years this additional fee will be set by the ASC Committee.  Once our registration system is activated we will announce it here on the website.

(Fees are correct at time of publication but subject to change)

You will be provided with a playing jumper (returnable at end of the season). The women’s uniform is cut differently to the men’s. You will need to provide your own footy boots; a nice range of female boots are now readily available.

Amart Sports are a current club sponsor and can provide discounts if you mention you are affiliated with Aberfeldie Sports Club.

League Affiliation

For the first time the Essendon District Football League, under the auspices of AFL Victoria, will have their own standalone Women’s competition (last year they were combined with the Western Region Football League). We expect there to be 8 teams playing across the EDFL Women’s Competition in Season 2018.
