Round 17 v West Coburg... on the road to finals

Our Reserves Thirds continued their winning finals campaign form with an 18-point victory over Maribyrnong Park to win the Preliminary match and make a date with the undefeated Greenvale in the Grand Final match this coming Friday Night August 25th. Well done to coach Dominic Condello and the boys!

In Premier Division the club was hosted by West Coburg at Shore Reserve and Aberfeldie recorded wins in all senior grades this past weekend.

The Under 19s continued to capitalise on their current success leading into the finals series with a 16-point win and full credit to the West Coburg boys who fought hard and made it an exciting match to watch. Our own Lachlan Brown kicked four and was also named Best on ground.  The Reserves closed their ledger for the day with an emphatic win of 47-points over the opposition despite a lacklustre first half. Final score was West Coburg 12.4 (76) were defeated by Aberfeldie 18.15 (123).  Rhys Bloomfield was named Best Player whilst Cameron Sharp kicked four goals.

The senior match was as predicted ... a real slippery test of ability and agility. Whilst senior coach Adam Potter has publically ackowledged at how proud he is of his playing group that of course, doesn't mean that he doesn't keep driving expectations and challenging our players in order to get the best out of them.

Having said that, the match proved that on a small ground as such, West Coburg would come at us with intensity which we were more than capable of matching if not bettering.  With characteristic grit and determination the boys continued the assualt to lock in the win and assure our place in the upcoming finals series as Josh Toy was named Best Player and leading goalkicker with four goals booted.  Final score was West Coburg 9.12 (66) def. by Aberfeldie 14.10 (94)

This coming week it's the final match of the H&A series (it's come around so quickly!) and the last home game luncheon for the year as Aberfeldie hosts Maribyrnong Park at home at Clifton Park.. which will once again be another great showcase for local grass roots community football. As always, we encourage all members and supporters to continue to get behind the club and the players for the remainder of this year's senior campaign and join together in this important passage in time.  We look forward to the challenge and of seeing you all there at our games!

Below:  If you don't mind umpire! Our own Daniel Thompson is tackled by West Coburg's Nick Tsonis in this action shot taken during the 3rd quarter of the senior match at Shore Reserve.

In 2015 we were pleased to announce that we created our own smartphone application through the Team App program! This is primarily targeted at players and officials of the senior football section who will be put into access groups for improved communication purposes but standard members are allowed to sign up to become basic supporters and to receive news and information from in and the club.  At this point event notifcations and other news commence the week of Round 1 and continue for the duration  of the season.

If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod or Android equivalent (Samsung, HTC, Sony etc.) you can go to the App Store or Google Play and download the application to your phone. Once you have done that you must sign up to the program which is 100% free. Then, search for ABERFELDIE FOOTBALL and request access. Once approved by the Administrator - and the season begins - you will be given updates to news, fixtures, team ladders and social events applicable to the senior football section. Welcome aboard!
