CRICKET SEASON 2011/12
The run home to the Finals!
So now it's official -- Season 2011/12 has been running since October and now all kids back at school we are officially heading towards finals! After being washed out the first weekend of the October at the season launch things got off to a slow start and yet, everyone is anxious to put their best foot forward and make some runs over the coming weeks of the new year, weather permitting of course! The seniors are also being competitive as they can and they too shall be turning up the heat in the run home towards the finals campaign. Well we will know after the next match who goes forward and who finishes up. Stay tuned!
As most of you may know, Cricket is a sport played predominantly in the drier periods of the year. But, the thing to remember is that even so, the weather is a major factor in all cricket matches, and the way the weather has indeed become so unpredictable over the years, any month can now be considered a wet month. Naturally, a scheduled game of cricket cannot be played in wet weather for obvious reasons. Dampness affects the bounce of the ball on the wicket and is a risk to all players involved in the game. Many grounds in the municipality like ours, have facilities to cover the cricket pitch (or the wicket). However, most grounds do not have the facilities to cover the outfield and Clifton Park is no different. This means that in the event of heavy bouts of bad weather, games may be cancelled, abandoned or suspended due to an unsafe outfield. Another factor in cricket is the amount of light available. VTCA umpires can stop play in the event of bad light as it becomes too difficult for the batsmen to be able to see the ball coming at them, (and in extreme cases, members of the fielding team). The umpires always have the final decision on this and weather related issues. For all enquiries relating to the Cricket section please contact Secretary RAY TIBBITTS on 0421-218-275.
